Imran Khan was attempting to establish himself as an opposition leader by bringing the students into the anti-Musharraf protests and the Jamiat leaders at the Punjab University didn't like it. Nonetheless, what the Jamiat did was a shameful act by first locking him up and then handing him over to the police. It's absolutely deplorable.
