QUETTA: The provincial government has appointed Arsalan Iftikhar, son of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, as vice-chairman of the Balochistan Investment Board.
The Chief Minister’s Finance Adviser Mir Khalid Khan Langove had announced in his budget speech the provincial government’s plan to set up the board headed by Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch.
“Yes, Arsalan Iftikhar has been appointed vice-chairman of the Balochistan Investment Board,” Finance Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Raisani confirmed to Dawn on Wednesday.
He said it would be an “honorary post without salary and allowances” and the vice chairman would preside over the meetings of the investment board in the absence of the chairman (chief minister).
The board will have 12 members. “The names of other members are likely to be announced soon,” the secretary said.

According to his profile available on the Peshawar High court website, he enrolled as an advocate of the Lower Courts in 1985. He was promoted to advocate of the High Court in 1990 and rose through the ranks to become an advocate of the Supreme Court in 2008.
He became the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court on 28th June 2018. He passed a number of important judgments during his judicial career, including ordering Musharraf’s hanging in one of his verdicts.
In his judgment, Justice Seth had written a section asking the law enforcement agencies to hang Musharraf in front of the Parliament. He also wrote that if Musharraf is found dead, slog his body to D-Chowk and leave it there for three days.
According to the Gulf News, Justice Seth recently “filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking elevation to the apex court.” “He drew the court’s attention to the fact that he was the senior-most judge in all the four high courts and had the lawful right to be considered for elevation as a judge of the Supreme Court.”
