TeleSchool, educational television channel to start transmission from today

The Teleschool, a new educational television channel, will start transmission today (Tuesday).

A day earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan launched Tele School TV channel and said the government will utilise all its resources to improve the channel. 

Speaking at the launching ceremony on Monday, the premier maintained that the channel would also benefit children living in far-flung areas.

He said the aim of the initiative was to provide education to children at their doorsteps during the lockdown situation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the channel in the wake of the coronavirus and subsequent closure of educational institutes.

Federal Directorate of Education said, students will be able to get education at home through the Tele school, adding that, educational materials provided by local educational technology companies.

The channel will broadcast programmes for 1-12 grades from 8am to 6pm daily.

The morning session with English, Maths, Urdu and General Science lessons is dedicated for junior students and the next with all subjects for seniors. 

The ministry has developed a course schedule in this regard.

For the channel, which is an initiative of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, the state-run Pakistan Television Corporation will provide satellite, cable and terrestrial transmission facilities, local edtech companies, including Sabaq, MUSE, Taleemabad and Knowledge Platform, have developed course contents, and Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, has offered editing support, while the SMS/IVR (short message services/interactive voice response) and web portal and app feedback support will come from Prime Minister’s Digital Pakistan initiative, Ministry of Information Technology and telecom companies.

The tele school agreement between the Federal Ministry of Education and Pakistan Television was reached on April 1.

According to sources, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and PTV had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard.

The MoU was signed by Joint Secretary Education Umair Javaid and PTV Managing Director (MD) Amir Manzoor in a ceremony that was attended by Shafqat Mahmood, PTV General Manager (GM) Farhat Anwar and other concerned officials.

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood also confirmed the agreement in a message posted on the social networking site and said that the main purpose of the tele-school is to provide ten hours of daily classes to school children through the TV channel.

It is an opportunity to school going students to get an education while they remain indoors, he added.

It is to be noted that, all educational institutions are closed due to coronavirus and the government has decided to educate children through the state TV channel.
